Elza already knew Manjuba, as she and her mother used to make donations to help those most in need, and Manjuba was one of the people they helped.

Manjuba suffers from a serious condition that affects the blood flow to his penis, causing it to remain constantly erect. He needs medication to reduce the swelling, but since he is homeless and spends all his money on alcohol and drugs, he can't afford it. As a result, he always has a noticeable bulge in his pants, which earned him the nickname "Manjuba."

Due to the contradictions in Elza's choices, her path will cross with Manjuba's — at least for a while.
